Join us at Dickens. Order yourself a drink or two (and you can order yourself dinner) while you sit back and listen to us talk nerdy to you. Dickens allows our patrons to order food from their full menu, and of course, the full bar. Street parking is available in the area (free after 6pm) as well as pay lots nearby. Dickens is also located two blocks from the downtown West-Kerby C-train station.

Talk teaser: The fact that Large Language Models are essentially thinking brains now, coupled with the fact that their thinking can be summoned in software code, means that software applications can now have a mind of their own like never before. We examine what this means for us humans and the way we interact with software.

About: Dr. Mohammad Keyhani is an Associate Professor at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, specializing in generative AI and digital entrepreneurship. He is co-founder of HoneybeeLogic.com (building AI tools for schools) and builds experimental products including HelperBat.com (AI powered scheduling assistant), MuseBattle.com (generative AI literacy game), CheckIt.so (AI powered document processing), and ZeptoFlow.com (nocode AI automation builder. This talk explores the Bailey–Borwein–Plouffe formula’s spooky ability to extract hexadecimal digits at any position, and how we harness high-performance computing to push the limits of science and mathematics.

About: Matt is a Calgary local that enjoys mathematics, high-performance computing, and skiing. His favourite bands are In Flames, Amon Amarth, and Avatar. Rusty is his co-pilot.
